ROCKY HILL FIRE DEPARTMENT
STANDARD OPERATION PROCEDURE
Purpose: To ensure that all personnel benefit from the use of PPE
Scope: The following procedure is in effect for all department responses.
Procedure: All members shall wear complete structural firefighting PPE while at any department response. Company officers are responsible to ensure that all PPE is in place before the member engages in activity.
PPE includes but is not limited to department issued:
· Helmets
· Turn-Out Coat and Bunker Pants
· Gloves and Boots
· SCBA Face piece
· Nomex Hood
Special operations i.e. Marine operations, cold-water rescue, and haz-mat responses require specialized PPE, which is at the discretion of the incident commander.
While operating on any roadway
that is subject to traffic movement, all personal shall wear department issued
reflective safety vests at all times.
These vests have been sized to fit over bunker gear. Exception: When actively engaged in fire suppression operation, bunker gear
will be sufficient.
When operating at marine operations, personnel working in boats or around the water’s edge shall wear floatation devices.
The member shall not alter or modify his PPE in any manner
If replacement equipment is needed then the member shall, as soon as practical, notify his company officer who will in turn request same from the Deputy Chief responsible for quartermaster duties.
Members shall only use the PPE, which has been issued to them.
Fire Department personnel will not use personally purchased PPE items.
At no time shall a member report for duty without their entire set of gear.
The Incident Commander may elect to have personnel in the cold zone dress for weather or incident conditions, however the member’s entire set of gear shall be available at all times.
