STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

 

TRAINING POLICY

 

 

Purpose:

Policy: 

 

Authority and Responsibility:

 

The Chief of the Department shall have the authority and responsibility for the adoption and approval of various training requirements.

 

The Deputy Chief/Training Officer Shall:

·         Evaluate and recommend training program content.

·         Develop training schedules on a pre-determined frequency.

·         Provide standardized training references and materials in conjunction with the training program.

·         Ensure continuity of training within the companies.

·         Develop skill and knowledge objectives for training topics.

·         Arrange for and schedule special training sessions.

·         Arrange for FF-1 certification training.

·         Schedule and coordinate recruit training.

 

The Company Captain Shall

·         Coordinate with Deputy Chief of Training the training topics for predetermined period.

·         Conduct meaningful and informative and training sessions as scheduled.

·         Notify, in writing, the above Deputy Chief of any additional training which is not on the schedule [i.e. Sunday drills etc—exclusive of driver’s training]

·         Ensure that all members under his command use all appropriate PPE and employ any safe work practice pertinent to the evolution.

·         Evaluate and record the results of each drill.

·         Ensure that his members attend any training required by the division.

·         Ensure that all members are evaluated, on at least annual basis for SCBA usage

 

 

 

All Department members shall:

·         Be responsible for participating in RHFD training activities and for maintaining a personal and professional competence relative to the skill and knowledge levels required of their respective position within the department.

 

Mandatory Topics

On an annual basis each ‘on-line’ member shall attend and participate in following training:

·         Haz-Mat Classroom

·         Haz-Mat Practical

·         Level B suits and procedures/Metering

·         AED/CPR refresher

·         Fire-Blast Live Burn Simulator [upon approval, an acquired structure may be substituted]

·         Blood borne Pathogens

·         Mark 1 Procedures

·         Any topic or certification course deemed mandatory by the training staff.
