STANDARD OPERATING POLICY

 

Vehicle ‘Out of Service’ policy

 

 

Purpose:           To provide policy and guidelines relative to placing a Fire Department vehicle out of service.

                       

Scope:              This policy applies to all fire department operated vehicles and apparatus.

 

It shall be the responsibility of all to adhere to this policy.

 

Procedure:        Fire Department vehicles may be removed from service for repairs, routine service and / or safety related issues. 

 

                        The operator or station officer may remove a vehicle from service whenever [in the opinion of the operator or officer] its continued operation would constitute a hazard.

                       

                        Once the vehicle is removes from service, the company officer will notify the apparatus chief ASAP.

 

                        An ‘Apparatus Out of Service” sign will be attached to the steering wheel until the vehicle is back in service.

                       

                        At no time shall an out of service vehicle be moved without the permission of the apparatus chief.

 

                        When apparatus is placed out of service, a general announcement will be made over the radio system and repeated during the daily radio tests.

 

                        After the completion of repairs, the same notification schedule shall be completed.
