DUMPSTER FIRES

Purpose: To maintain a standard for all dumpster fire operations

Scope: The following guideline is to be followed for all dumpster fire operations

Procedure: Due to their unknown contents, dumpster fires will be treated as a special hazard incident. Rapid extinguishment with minimal exposure for personnel is the goal.

Extinguishment should be accomplished without personnel placing themselves directly in front of any opening.

All personnel involved in extinguishment and overhaul shall wear full gear including SCBA.

Excessive water usage should be avoided so that run-off is kept to a minimum.

Tools shall be used for overhaul to avoid manual handling of the contents.
